Run on Remembrance Sunday every year, the Stebbing 10 pairs serious racing with genuine ceremony: the field observes a two-minute silence and a short service before the gun, and a donation from race proceeds goes to the Poppy Appeal, a tradition that's as much a part of the event's identity as the running itself. The course itself is classic Essex club-race territory - ten miles of quiet, gently undulating country lanes looping out from Stebbing High Street near the village war memorial, with a short stretch of farm track thrown in to keep things interesting, before finishing back at Stebbing Primary School. It's organised by Grange Farm & Dunmow Runners and has built a genuine reputation over more than two decades, having previously been recognised with the county's top prize for best road race in the Essex area.
That pedigree shows in the field it attracts: this is very much a serious club runners' race as much as an open-entry event, drawing a strong turnout from Essex clubs chasing county championship points on a fair, undulating course rather than a flat-out PB circuit. For anyone new to it, the combination of rural scenery, a proper multi-terrain test in the closing miles, and the solemnity of the Remembrance Sunday tradition makes for a race with more substance than most autumn tens - a fixture people plan their November around rather than pick up on a whim.
