Oundle New Year 5K

Race Description

This is the shorter half of Nice Work's Oundle New Year event, starting alongside the 10k at 10:00 from Oundle Primary School on Cotterstock Lane, but covering just one lap of the tarmac course through the lanes and villages around Oundle rather than the two laps the 10k runners complete. The terrain and setting are identical to the 10k - quiet, gently undulating country roads - just half the distance.

Entry is open from age 11, noticeably younger than the 10k's 15-plus cut-off, which points to who it's aimed at: younger runners, families, and anyone using a New Year 5k as a first timed race rather than a serious test. Finishers still get a bespoke medal and free photographs, and there are trophies for the leading runners, so it isn't treated as an afterthought alongside the longer distance.

It suits beginners, younger runners, and anyone wanting a manageable, flat-ish tarmac 5k to start the year with rather than commit to the extra lap and distance of the 10k. The single-lap format also means a shorter, simpler commitment for anyone unsure about winter road racing, while still sharing the same start, finish and organisation as the main event.
