Race Description

Organised by Nice Work, this is a January fixture based at Oundle Primary School on Cotterstock Lane, with a 10:00 start built around getting people moving early in the year rather than chasing fast times. The course is entirely on tarmac - quiet, gently undulating country lanes looping out through the villages that surround Oundle - and the 10k covers the same loop twice, so runners pass through the finish area at halfway before heading back out for a second circuit.

It's a low-key, well-organised event rather than a spectacle: a bespoke medal, free race photos, and trophies for the leading finishers, with entry restricted to those 15 and over. The Northamptonshire countryside in early January can mean cold, sometimes muddy verges even on a road route, and the area is best reached by car, with Corby the nearest railhead for anyone travelling by train.

It suits runners using the race as a first proper outing of the year - New Year's resolution joggers and regular club runners alike - who want a straightforward, accurately measured tarmac 10k without the crowds or expense of a city event. The two-lap format also makes it a reasonable option for pacing practice, since the out-and-back nature of passing the start/finish at 5k gives a natural checkpoint.
