About

Battel Bonfire Boyes hold a genuinely remarkable claim: they're the world's oldest bonfire society. Their tradition dates all the way back to 1646, when St Mary's Church in Battle first allocated funds for "gunpowder treason rejoicing" — and the town has celebrated every year since, making it one of the longest continuously running community traditions in the country. Today, Battel Bonfire Boyes (trading as Battle Bonfire Society Ltd) organise the annual Battle Bonfire celebrations, alongside a range of fundraising and community events throughout the year — including the BBB10K, our very first Prize Race. We're proud to have Battel Bonfire Boyes as an Open Podium partner. BBB10K was the race that started it all for us — the first to offer a Target Time Award, and a brilliant, well-organised event through the historic streets of Battle, finishing at the ancient Battle Abbey. If you're ever in the area around Guy Fawkes Night, their bonfire celebrations are well worth experiencing for yourself.
