Race Description

Run under the Run Kent banner by RunThrough, this October half marathon (alongside sister 10k and 5k races on the same morning) starts and finishes at The Judd School and takes a single closed-road loop out through Tonbridge and into the surrounding Kent countryside. It's a straightforwardly modern event in its organisation - chip timing, kilometre markers, well-stocked water stations and marshalled turns are all standard for this kind of race - but what gives it local weight is its partnership with Tonbridge Rotary Club and the Tonbridge Lions Club, two long-standing community organisations whose volunteers and fundraising are woven into race day, from marshalling to the bands positioned along the course to keep runners moving. With around 100 metres of climbing over the distance, it's a genuinely rolling rather than pan-flat course, testing without being punishing, and the town-and-country route gives runners a proper look at Tonbridge - its historic centre, the River Medway, and the Kent lanes beyond - rather than repeating laps of a business park or industrial estate.

It suits a broad range of runners: those wanting a fast-ish, well-organised half marathon close to London with decent transport links, families able to choose between three distances on the same day, and anyone who likes knowing their entry fee supports recognisable local causes rather than disappearing into a faceless national event. The live music and crowd support along the course add a genuine club-town atmosphere that lifts it above a purely functional road race.
