Tissington Trail Jan 10K Trail

Race Description

Sharing its start, finish and the same wide, traffic-free former railway path as the half marathon, the 10k is a shorter out-and-back on the Tissington Trail from Ashbourne - turning back well before the half marathon field, so the two distances share the opening and closing stretches of trail but diverge on how far out they go. Like the longer race it climbs gently on the way out and drops back down on the return, giving a fast-feeling second half without the technical demands of a genuine off-road 10k.

Held on the same January weekend as the half marathon as part of Nice Work's popular Tissington Trail event, it draws a similar crowd - the wider event sells out regularly and has featured in Runner's World lists of the UK's best trail races. Because the surface is smooth, gently-graded former railway rather than rough trail, it suits runners who want the scenery and off-road setting of the Peak District without sacrificing much in the way of pace, including 10k PB hunters who might otherwise stick to road races. It's a gentler, shorter alternative for anyone not ready to commit to the half marathon distance.
