Sherwood New Year 5k Trail

Race Description

The shorter option at Nice Work's Sherwood New Year event, run on the same Sherwood Pines trails as the 10k but - since the 2025 change to two separate one-lap routes - no longer simply half of the 10k course. The 5k has its own dedicated lap through the forest, sharing some sections with the 10k route but picking up stretches unique to the shorter distance, on the same mix of bridleways, fire roads and forest paths through Sherwood Pines' pine woodland.

Starting alongside the 10k and junior run in mid-to-late January, it's aimed squarely at runners easing back into things after the festive break - undulating enough to be a proper trail outing rather than a flat sprint, but short and forgiving enough to suit complete beginners or anyone using it as a first race back. Nice Work run several similar Sherwood Pines events across the year, including a Christmas edition and the much bigger spring 20 Mile/Half Marathon/10k weekend, so this has the feel of an established, well-organised fixture rather than a one-off. It suits new-to-running entrants and families more than competitive 5k specialists chasing a fast time, given the forest terrain underfoot.
