Sherwood New Year 10k Trail

Race Description

Held in mid-to-late January at Sherwood Pines in the heart of Sherwood Forest, this is Nice Work's way of getting runners race-fit again after Christmas. The 10k has its own dedicated lap of the forest's trails, bridleways and fire roads - since 2025 the 10k and 5k have run as two separate one-lap routes rather than the old format where the 10k was simply two laps of the 5k course, so 10k runners now see more of the forest specific to their distance, sharing only some sections with the shorter race. It's an undulating multi-terrain course with a handful of inclines through mature pine woodland, closer to a scenic winter trail outing than a fast PB course.

Nice Work also run a Christmas 10k & 5k on the same Sherwood Pines trails a few weeks earlier and a much bigger 20 Mile/Half Marathon/10k weekend here in spring, so this is very much a regular fixture on their calendar rather than a one-off. A junior run takes place alongside it for younger family members. The New Year timing and forest setting make it a popular target for anyone setting a resolution to get back into running, with a friendly, low-key atmosphere - though the terrain still rewards a bit of trail experience over flat-road speed.
