Race Description

The shorter partner to the Rye Summer 10k Series, this 5k runs the same Friday-evening slots from The Point at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve across June, July, August and September, making it an easy series to dip into for a fast, low-commitment evening race. The reserve's shingle ridges, saltmarsh and lagoons give the flat tarmac course a genuinely open, wild feel rare for a 5k, with sea air and big skies standing in for the usual park lap or town-centre loop.

Because it's shorter and flatter than the 10k, it's a natural choice for newer runners attempting their first timed 5k, as well as faster club runners using it as a midweek-style speed session in all but name. As with its longer sibling, conditions can swing the result - a calm evening on the reserve makes for very quick times, while any wind off the sea adds a real edge to what looks, on paper, like an easy flat course. The series format means regulars build a rapport with the route over the summer, watching the light and birdlife change from race to race, while newcomers can join for a single evening without committing to the full run.

Rye's hilltop town and working harbour sit just across the marsh as a scenic backdrop to the finish. It's a relaxed but genuinely fast option for anyone wanting a short summer race in one of the coast's more distinctive settings.
