Romney Marsh 10K

Race Description

Run from St Martin's Field in New Romney, this is about as flat a 10k as Kent has to offer - the course follows tarmac lanes across Romney Marsh, the vast expanse of reclaimed grazing land and drainage dykes that gives the race its name, with barely any climb to speak of across the whole distance. Organised on behalf of Romney Marsh Rotary Club, it's built as an approachable, PB-friendly race rather than a scenic trail outing: wide-open marsh skies, long straight lanes and sheep-grazed fields rather than woodland or coastal cliffs, which is exactly what draws time-chasers who know a genuinely flat course when they see one. New Romney is one of England's historic Cinque Ports, though the sea retreated from it centuries ago, leaving the town stranded a couple of miles inland amid the Marsh's sheep pasture and its distinctive network of drainage channels - a landscape more associated with birdwatching and the nearby Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch light railway than with hill running.

A junior run and welcoming atmosphere for first-timers sit alongside the serious end of the field, and the Rotary connection means proceeds support local causes. For anyone wanting to test themselves against the clock without a single incline to blame for a slow split, or simply enjoying a big-sky run through one of England's more unusual landscapes, this is a straightforward, well-organised option.
