Based at Towers School on the edge of Ashford, with the start out along Sandyhurst Lane, this is one of the longer-running fixtures on the Kent racing calendar, having clocked up well over three decades of editions under various sponsor names down the years. The tarmac course heads out into the country lanes around Westwell, on the lower slopes of the North Downs, giving an undulating rather than flat profile - enough rise and fall to make it an honest test without becoming a hill race.
It's the kind of course regulars use as a form guide: not pan-flat enough to be a pure PB circuit, but fair and consistently measured, so year-on-year times mean something. The race supports Pilgrims Hospices, the charity providing hospice care across east Kent, and that local connection has helped keep the event going through changes of title sponsor over the years. Ashford's mix of market-town streets and surrounding farmland means the race village at Towers School has decent parking and facilities without losing the rural character of the running itself - this isn't a race through retail parks or ring roads, but out into genuinely pretty countryside within a few minutes of town.
It suits club runners looking for a solid calendar target and a fair, undulating test, as well as locals turning out for a well-established event with a charitable cause and a long Kent pedigree behind it.
