Race Description

The shorter option at Nice Work's Out Of The Blue event at Ashburnham Place near Battle, starting at the same 17:30 evening slot as the 10k but covering a single lap of the multi-terrain course around the estate's lakes rather than the two laps the 10k runners complete. The surfaces - grass, trail and tarmac paths through the 220-acre grounds - are identical to the longer race, just half the distance.

Like the 10k, it's run in memory of Will Beckett, raising funds for Winston's Wish, Dragonflies, CALM and the Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team, and finishers receive the same bespoke medal. A children's race on the field runs alongside it, making the evening as much a family occasion as a race for serious times.

It suits runners after a shorter, scenic off-road outing in beautiful grounds without the commitment of a second lap - a good option for those newer to multi-terrain running, or families wanting to take part in the same event as more experienced runners tackling the 10k. The evening start and parkland setting give it a relaxed, sociable feel rather than a competitive edge.
