High Easter is a small, picture-postcard Essex village seven miles northwest of Chelmsford, built around a green and a handsome village hall, and it's from that hall that this 10k starts and finishes. The single-loop route heads out along the quiet country lanes surrounding the village, and with only around 35 metres of climbing across the whole ten kilometres, it's about as flat as 10ks in this part of Essex get - a genuine PB opportunity for runners who like their courses honest and uncomplicated.
There's little to distract from the running itself: no crowds lining every corner, no urban backdrop, just hedgerows, farmland and the kind of rural quiet that makes pacing easier to judge. That combination of a fast, low-traffic course and a friendly, low-key village atmosphere has made it a popular target for runners from Chelmsford and Essex clubs looking to test fitness mid-season, while still being approachable enough for someone attempting their first 10k away from a big-city event.
Finishers get a technical t-shirt and there are prizes across the age categories, but the emphasis here is squarely on the running rather than the extras. It suits PB hunters most of all, though the setting - rolling Essex farmland around a genuinely old village centre - also makes it a pleasant, unhurried outing for anyone who prefers their races quiet and their competition self-imposed rather than crowd-driven.
