Girlings Ashford & District RRC 10 Mile

Race Description

Organised by Ashford & District Running Club with Nice Work handling race management and timing, this is the longer of two distances run from Towers School on Faversham Road in Kennington, Ashford, with a 10:00 start. The course heads out onto tarmac country lanes around the village of Westwell, officially measured and described by organisers as a mix of rolling hills, open countryside and fast tarmac stretches rather than a flat out-and-back.

Run in mid-February, it sits early enough in the year to work as a genuine fitness test after a winter of base training - the extra distance over the accompanying 5 Mile means the undulating lanes have more chance to bite, particularly for runners using it to gauge form ahead of spring marathons or half marathons. Ashford & District RRC has organised Girlings-sponsored races on this Kent club calendar for many years, giving the fixture a settled, well-run feel despite Nice Work's more recent involvement in timing and entries.

The nominated charity is Holding On Letting Go, which provides bereavement support for children, young people and their families, and finishers are looked after with cake, refreshments, a bespoke medal and free parking at the school. It suits club and county-standard runners wanting a proper distance test on lanes rather than a fast PB course, with prizes going to leading finishers.
