The Folkestone Coastal 10k is about as close to a pure speed course as the Kent coast offers: an out-and-back along the promenade path from Coastal Park, near the foot of the Leas Cliff Lift, heading towards Hythe and back, entirely away from traffic and largely flat throughout. That combination has made it a fixture on the Kent Grand Prix circuit and a genuine target for runners chasing 10k personal bests, backed up by an elite start wave with real qualifying standards, under 36 minutes for men and 40 for women, which tells you how seriously faster club runners take the race.

For anyone weighing up Folkestone's two well-known road races, the Coastal 10k is the flatter, faster, more PB-focused option, distinct from the hillier out-and-back character of the town's half marathon along the same stretch of coastline.
