Race Description

The Felsted 10k, organised by Grange Farm & Dunmow Runners and held each July, sends runners on a single loop through the countryside around Felsted, a mid-Essex village best known for its independent school, whose grounds provide both the event hub and, fittingly, the finish. After a short section through the village itself, the course heads out along quiet country roads through neighbouring hamlets, staying largely on tarmac with just a brief stretch of trail thrown in, before looping back for a finish across the Felsted School playing field, a pleasant, slightly theatrical way to end a village 10k.

The terrain is gently undulating rather than flat or seriously hilly, giving it enough character to feel like a genuine rural run without punishing anyone chasing a fast time. It has built a solid reputation as a well-organised, accurately measured local race, chip-timed with a proper spread of prizes across veteran categories from 40 up to 70 for both men and women, and the organisers back up their confidence in the course by offering a cash prize for anyone who breaks the standing course record. That combination, a genuinely scenic Essex countryside route, a school-field finish, and prize money on the line, gives Felsted a bit more edge than the average midsummer village 10k, while still keeping the relaxed, locally run feel that comes from being organised by a small running club rather than a commercial promoter.

It suits anyone after a proper rural test on quiet roads, from competitive club runners through to those simply after a scenic summer outing.
