Chichester 10k takes runners onto genuinely unusual tarmac: the roads of Goodwood Motor Circuit, one of Britain's most famous motorsport venues, set against the South Downs a few miles outside the cathedral city of Chichester. The race began back in 1991 as a city-centre event before relocating to the circuit in 2017, and it has kept growing ever since, regularly filling well over a thousand entrants on a course whose fast, smooth surface and modest 25 metres of climb make it a natural target for anyone chasing a 10k PB. There's a slightly surreal thrill to lapping the same tarmac used by historic racing cars during events like the Goodwood Revival, with wide, sweeping bends replacing the usual traffic-calmed suburban streets, and the grandstand providing a proper finish-line backdrop.
Course records here have proven serious business: Stephanie Twell holds the women's mark on the Goodwood layout, and in 2026 Karima Harris of Highgate Harriers ran a world age-group 10k best in the W55 category, a reminder that this isn't just a scenic day out but a course fast runners take seriously. It's popular too with charity teams, including hospice fundraisers, alongside the usual mix of club runners and first-timers. Parking is plentiful, the closed-circuit setting keeps the route free of traffic and road closures elsewhere in the city, and the surrounding South Downs National Park scenery gives the whole morning a rural, open feel rather than an urban one.
Whether you're after a genuine time trial or just an excuse to run somewhere different, the combination of a famous venue and a fair, fast course is hard to match.
