Race Description
Nice Work's Half Marathon at Cannock Chase is run as two laps of the course, on paths, trails and bridleways through the forest rather than the four-distance lap course used at the separate Cannock Chase Forest 20/15/10/5 Mile event earlier in the year - this is a standalone HM & 10k weekend at the same Penkridge Bank Road venue. Terrain is described by the organisers as likely uneven, with protruding tree roots and slippery sections in wet weather, reflecting the mixed heathland-and-pine-plantation character of the wider Cannock Chase AONB.
The event has traditionally run in autumn but has moved to a summer date in recent years following runner feedback, trading autumn colour for lighter evenings and drier underfoot conditions. Two laps of genuinely technical trail make it a proper half marathon test rather than a road time-trial substitute, and it suits runners with some off-road experience, or anyone training for a longer trail event who wants a well-organised, marshalled route rather than a solo long run.
Finishers receive a bespoke medal, free event photography, and there are trophies and prizes for the leading runners, with free parking at the venue.
