The 10 mile is run as two laps of Nice Work's undulating course through Cannock Chase Forest, starting and finishing at Wood Road Car Park off Penkridge Bank Road. The route uses forest paths and trails across the AONB - a landscape of pine plantation and open heathland with a history stretching back to its days as a royal hunting ground - and surfaces can be uneven and muddy, particularly after rain.
Sitting in the middle of the four Cannock Chase distances, it's a popular choice for runners wanting a genuine trail test without the multi-lap grind of the 15 or 20 mile options, and the organisers pitch the whole series as good spring marathon preparation - two laps of hilly, technical terrain builds strength without demanding the same recovery as the longer distances. It's open to all abilities, from novices wanting a step up from parkrun-length trail races to more experienced runners using it as a training run.
Entry includes a bespoke medal, free event photography, and trophies and prizes for the leading finishers, plus free parking. Since 20, 15, 10 and 5 mile runners all share the same lap, the 10 mile is really about choosing two circuits of that loop over one or three.
