Race Description

Run over the same Romney Marsh course as its 20-mile sibling, the Brett Lydd Half Marathon shares the out-and-back route from the Banks Sports and Social Club in Lydd along quiet, wide marsh lanes, flat almost to the point of monotony, in the best possible way for anyone chasing a personal best. The marsh itself, reclaimed over centuries from the sea and grazed by sheep for just as long, gives the course a distinctive open, treeless character quite different from most Kent racing; there's little shelter from wind, but equally little in the way of hills to break rhythm.

Brett has backed the Lydd races for close to twenty years, and the March date makes the half marathon a popular staging post for runners building toward spring marathons, offering genuine pace data on a course with almost nothing to distort it. With well over 900 finishers in recent years and strong competitive fields at the front, it's taken seriously by clubs across Kent and Sussex, while remaining approachable for anyone attempting the half marathon distance for the first time on a course that removes hills from the list of things to worry about.

Entry supports the Mayor of Lydd's Charity Fund. If your goal is a fast, honest half marathon time on a straightforward, well-marshalled course rather than a picturesque tour, few races in the South East deliver it as reliably as this one.
